Connecting to Your Server via sFTP

Set up an sFTP client, find your credentials, and move large file transfers without touching the browser file manager.

How do you connect to your game server with sFTP? Find your Connection string, Username, and Password (the same one you use for the panel) under your panel’s Settings tab, enter the username, host, and port into an sFTP client like MobaXterm, FileZilla, or WinSCP, and connect, no need for your browser’s file manager.

What sFTP is, and when it beats the browser file manager

sFTP is a secure file transfer protocol, a direct line into your server’s files using a dedicated app instead of your browser.

Reach for it over drag-and-drop when you’re moving thousands of files, a very large world, or anything you want to queue up and let run in the background.

Find your connection details

Open your server in the panel and go to Settings. The SFTP Information card there has everything you need: a Connection string, your Username, and a note on your Password.

Your SFTP password is the same password you use to log into the panel, it’s not a separate credential. The port in the connection string is almost never the standard 22, always use exactly what’s shown there.

Pick a client and connect

MobaXterm is a great all-in-one choice if you’re on Windows, it handles SFTP alongside SSH and other protocols in one app. FileZilla (Windows/Mac/Linux) and WinSCP (Windows) are the other two most common picks, and all three are free.

In MobaXterm, go to Session → New session and click the SFTP icon. The connection string splits into three pieces: everything before the @ is your username, everything between @ and the final : is the remote host, and the number after that colon is the port.

Enter those three pieces into their matching fields and leave the password blank, MobaXterm prompts for it on first connect, use your panel password. FileZilla and WinSCP use the same three fields, just laid out differently.

Move large transfers efficiently

Zip a large folder into one file before uploading. One big transfer is far more reliable than thousands of small ones, and your panel can extract the archive server-side once it’s up.

Queue the upload and step away. Most clients keep transferring in the background even if you leave the window open unattended.

If the connection fails

Check the port first, it’s the most common mistake since it’s rarely 22.

Make sure you’re using your panel credentials, not your Vaelix account login. They’re different.

Tip: Stop your server before transferring into its world folder to avoid file corruption from concurrent writes.

Frequently asked questions

What is my sFTP password?

It is the same password you use to log into the panel, not a separate credential.

Why can’t I connect over sFTP?

Check the port first, since it is rarely the standard 22, and make sure you are using your panel credentials rather than your Vaelix account login. They are different.

Which sFTP client should I use?

MobaXterm is a good all-in-one choice on Windows. FileZilla (Windows, Mac, Linux) and WinSCP (Windows) are the other common picks, and all three are free.
