# Palworld: Fix Unknown Hostname, Players, and Map

How do I configure Palworld REST API? Your panel can't query live server info because Palworld's REST API is disabled by default. Stop your server, take your server's port from the Network tab and add 1, then enable REST API Enabled and set that number as the REST API Port in your Palworld Settings tab, or set RESTAPIEnabled=True and RESTAPIPort directly in PalWorldSettings.ini, save, and restart.

## Why Palworld shows Unknown hostname, players, and map

Your panel's **Hostname**, **Players**, and **Map** fields all depend on Palworld's built-in **REST API**. It's **disabled by default**, so until it's turned on, the panel has no way to ask your server for that live info, it just shows **Unknown** or **?**.

The **Players** tab shows the same root cause directly: **"No players found. Either no players are online or query is disabled on this server."** That second half is almost always what's actually happening.

## Find your server port, then add 1

The REST API port has to be your **game port + 1**, exactly. Open your panel's **Network** tab to find your server's actual game port, then add **1** to it, that's the number you'll use for the REST API.

This isn't a suggestion, it's a requirement. Any other port number won't work, even if it's technically free.

> **Tip:** See our [Networking, Query, and RCON guide](/basic-help/networking-ports-and-rcon) for more on how the Network tab and ports work together.

## Enable REST API in the Palworld Settings tab

Palworld settings can only be edited safely while the server is **stopped**, your panel will confirm this once it's off. Open the **Palworld Settings** tab in the sidebar, then type **REST** into **Search settings** to jump straight to it under **Advanced / Present-only Fields**.

Toggle **REST API Enabled** on, enter the port number from the previous step into **REST API Port**, then save and restart your server.

| Setting | File | Default | Recommended |
|---|---|---|---|
| REST API Enabled | Palworld Settings tab | Off | On |
| REST API Port | Palworld Settings tab | pre-filled, inactive while disabled | server port + 1 (e.g. 8212) |

## Or set it directly in PalWorldSettings.ini

Prefer editing the raw config? Open `Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/PalWorldSettings.ini` from your panel's **Files** tab, that's the file the running server actually reads. Don't edit `DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini`, that one is just a reference sample, changes there are never applied to your server.

Every setting lives inside one long `OptionSettings=(...)` line. Find `RESTAPIEnabled=False` inside it and change it to `RESTAPIEnabled=True`, then find `RESTAPIPort=` right next to it and set it to your **game port + 1**, exactly, same requirement as the visual settings manager.

**Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/PalWorldSettings.ini**

```ini
...,RCONEnabled=False,RCONPort=25575,Region="",bUseAuth=True,BanListURL="https://b.palworldgame.com/api/banlist.txt",RESTAPIEnabled=False,RESTAPIPort=8212,bShowPlayerList=False,...
```

> **Tip:** Stop the server before editing, same as the visual settings manager, and restart after saving for the change to take effect.

## Confirm it worked

Restart your server, then open the **Players** tab again. **Hostname**, **Map**, and **Player count** should now show real values instead of Unknown or a question mark, and the "query is disabled" message should be gone.

## Frequently asked questions

### What port should I use for the Palworld REST API?

Your game port plus 1, exactly. Any other port number will not work, even if it is free.

### Why does the Players tab say query is disabled?

Palworld’s REST API is disabled by default, so the panel has no way to ask your server for live info. Enable it in the Palworld Settings tab and restart.

### Which file do I edit for Palworld settings?

Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/PalWorldSettings.ini. DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini is only a reference sample, and changes there are never applied to your server.
