# Get started

How do you get a game server running on Vaelix? Order a server from the store, open it in the control panel, find your address on the Network tab, upload any files you need, and set your game options. This page walks through each step and links to the guide for the details.

## 1. Order a server

Pick a plan in the [Vaelix store](https://store.vaelix.cloud). To compare plans first, see [Minecraft server hosting](https://vaelix.cloud/minecraft-server-hosting) or [all supported games](https://vaelix.cloud/game-server-hosting).

## 2. Open your server in the panel

Once your server is ready, open it in the control panel. Everything below happens there, and the available tabs depend on the game. The [control panel reference](/panel-basics) explains what each tab is for.

## 3. Find your address

Open the **Network** tab. It lists every port allocated to your server, including the main game port. Players connect with your server's IP and game port.

To skip typing a port, set a free `name.vaelix.cloud` address on the **Subdomains** tab. Only Minecraft: Java Edition and Rust can drop the port, so every other game still needs the exact IP and port. See [Custom domains and SRV records](/basic-help/custom-domains-and-srv-records).

## 4. Upload your files

For a handful of files, drag and drop them into the panel's **File Manager**. For large worlds or thousands of files, connect with sFTP instead.

- [Connecting to your server via sFTP](/basic-help/connecting-via-sftp)
- [Migrating your world to Vaelix](/basic-help/migrating-your-world-to-vaelix)

> **Tip:** Stop your server before uploading into its world or save folder. Writing into a running server can corrupt saves.

## 5. Configure your game

Startup parameters and game options live in the panel, and some games need extra steps before the panel can show live info.

- **Minecraft:** [How much RAM do you need](/minecraft/how-much-ram-for-a-minecraft-server), then [Paper and Spigot tuning](/minecraft/optimizing-paper-spigot-minecraft) or [large modpacks](/minecraft/optimizing-modded-minecraft).
- **Rust:** [Rust networking setup](/rust/rust-networking-setup), then [uMod plugins](/rust/umod-plugins-rust).
- **Palworld:** [Enable the REST API](/palworld/palworld-rest-api-setup) so the panel shows hostname, players, and map.
- **Project Zomboid:** [Sandbox settings explained](/project-zomboid/project-zomboid-sandbox-settings).

## 6. Keep it running well

Watch your panel's memory graph after a real play session, and learn what TPS and MSPT tell you in [Understanding TPS and server lag](/basic-help/understanding-tps-and-lag).

Stuck at any step? See [Getting help](/help).
